The Foundation of the Ashram
The Oblate Ashram Christened Aanmodaya (Awakening to the Divine Self within) was established by Congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in the year 1990 at Enathur, Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, in the Southern part of Indiafor the purpose of providing a sacred space where people from all walks of life irrespective of creed, nationality, religion, gender, language or caste may come and spend time experiencing the Divine and/or the Silence of the nature or just be resting their tired limbs, regaining strength and continue their pilgrimage of life. The foundation stone was laid by the Canadian Oblate Fr. Denis Dansause,OMI on 14th October 1989 on the vigil of the Feast of the great Christian Mystic St. Theresa of Avila. The Ashram was blessed open on 17th February, 1992 with late Swami AmalrajJesudass as the Guru of the Ashram. There has been always a core of Oblate Community assisted by Brothers, Sisters and other domestic helpers.
